Scare off your pants

SO...i have a confession to make. i have never seen a scary movie. i have never even bothered to try and see one, and i know it sounds pathetic...but that's only because it is. And i figured that Halloween is just around the corner, so what a better way to experience Halloween by watching my very first horror film. I will start by renting and watching the top 5 scariest movies of all time, as determined by Entertainment weekly. i do have certain expectations, based merely on previews and other people's opinions. I expect the movies to be scary, dark, and primarily gory. Some of the scariest movies i have noticed (I apologize for the lack of capitals, both shift keys are stuck to the keyboard) are very violent. I believe that violence is the key to fear. The top five scariest movies of all time are as follows:

THE SHINING
THE EXORCIST
TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE
SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (won four oscars on my birthday!)
JAWS
HALLOWEEN
PSYCHO
SEVEN
ROSEMARY'S BABY
POLTERGEIST
A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET
THE THING
THE EVIL DEAD
CARRIE
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD
THE OMEN
AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON
HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER
THE HITCHER
LOST HIGHWAY

i will select two of these out of a hat every Sunday, watch and review. any suggestions?

  1. rosemary's baby will make you never ever EVER want children. I know this first hand.
seven is amazing, if you want to borrow it I own it :)
hmmmm halloween, if you see that it HAS to be the original, nothing else compares. AND Silence of The Lambs is so good, it's just great. You have to see all the others too (Red Dragon, Hannabil, Hannibal Rising) although Hannibal Rising is really quite disgusting, like you have no idea. I still havent made it all the way through.

  2. Rosemary's baby is amazing. I think they made some half ass sequel in the '80s but I'm not sure. Night of the Living Dead is classic!

  4. Out of all of those, I have seen The Shining, The Excorcist, Jaws, Halloween, Psycho, Poltergeist, Carrie, and The Hitcher. Out of all of those, The Excorcist REALLY freaked me out. It's a little vulgar, but it was quite frightening to my friend and I when we first saw it a few years ago. I agree with Ryan, the Saw movies are twisted and insane, so scary! I think that this is a great idea, Alexis. And by the way, it's not pathetic that you have never seen a scary movie, it just means that you spend your time a little more progressive. (: Tell us what you think of the movies!

  5. so the only ones I was really captivated lol by were: the exorcist, rosemary's baby, Psycho, Jaws, The Omen (the original)...the rest kind of dragged. I saw the sixth sense which was amazing! ..and paranormal activity was kind of lame.
